Meet our Members: Kim Kufel

The American Marketing Association is the essential community for marketers. Within the Charlotte chapter, we’re fortunate to have a collective group of talented people working towards connecting, growing, and solidifying marketing’s role in the business community. That’s why we’re excited to launch a brand new series, Meet our Members to showcase individuals who are performing at the top of their game.

This week, we are featuring AMA Charlotte member Kim Kufel. Kim is the Inbound Marketing Campaign Manager at Basware.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MARKETING?

I've always loved writing. As a kid I swore I would be an author and even wrote a novel on my Gateway desktop computer - let's just say I'm happy I can't find it! In college I wrote for a digital magazine and since have continued to write for a variety of publications. Post-college I was looking for a marketing role that included copywriting and a marketing role fell into my lap where I was writing and strategizing creative direction for a variety of ads from print to digital to Pandora ads and TV commercials. Since then, I've had the opportunity take on a variety of roles that have helped me gain experience and ignited my passion for marketing.

WHO IS YOUR MARKETING IDOL?

Arielle Charnas, Founder of Something Navy, is my ultimate marketing idol. She turned her college blog into a lifestyle brand that has shaped the way we view fashion and influencer marketing. Her recent collaboration with Nordstrom was the biggest in the company’s history and garnered over $1 million in sales in less than 24 hours. To me she’s an inspiration because she turned her blog, something she was using as a fun side project, into a multimillion-dollar brand that includes everything from lifestyle content to a full fashion line for women.

HOW HAS YOUR AMA MEMBERSHIP BENEFITED YOU PROFESSIONALLY?

When I first moved to Charlotte 3 years ago, I knew I wanted to get involved in the marketing community and AMA Charlotte was the perfect fit. Being part of the Board of Directors for AMA has not only helped me meet some extremely talented Charlotteans, but it has vastly helped me grow my professional network and build lasting relationships. I think the biggest takeaway from AMA Charlotte is the opportunity to network and learn from industry peers.
